There are a number of sign in options that mean that you do not have to have or enter a username and password every time, which are listed here:   #### OpenAthens ![Text reads openathens](https://knowledge.vlex.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20SS/Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085255.png?width=216&height=109&name=Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085255.png) Select **OpenAthens** on the Sign in page to enter vLex. Your organisation will provide you with a username and a password if you are OpenAthens users.   #### Via your institution ![Text reads your institution](https://knowledge.vlex.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20SS/Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085239.png?width=216&height=107&name=Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085239.png) Also known as **Shibboleth,** this is a common authentication system used by universities. You will be taken to the Microsoft login page, or if you are already logged in, you will be taken straight to vLex.   When using this method for the first time, you will be asked to grant permission to vLex to see your basic profile. ![Image of the permissions screen](https://knowledge.vlex.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20SS/Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085750.png?width=381&height=471&name=Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085750.png)     #### IP recognition IP access is used by larger organisations, such as law firms and law schools, and will automatically sign you in as long as you are connected to their network. To sign in straight away, go to [https://app.vlex.com](https://app.vlex.com) . If you prefer to sign in with a username and password, you can sign out of the IP authenticated account and then sign back in using your own personal login details. If you do not have your own login details, speak to your account administrator to create them.   #### EZProxy or WAM Proxy When you usually sign in automatically at work or university, but you are off-campus or out of the office, you can use a link, provided by your organisation, to log in.   **∅** If you sign in with IP recognition, a proxy, or OpenAthens, some features, such as [notifications, alerts](https://knowledge.vlex.com/en/getting-started/setting-up/alerts?hsLang=en) , and [history](https://knowledge.vlex.com/en/getting-started/quick-start-guide/history?hsLang=en) , will not be available. Use the search field on the new page to find your institution, you can search by name or email. For example, type *University of Wirksworth* or *@wirksworth.ac.uk* . This will take you to your university’s login page, where you can log in and be taken to vLex.   **→** If your institution gives you a direct link, this will take you straight to the login screen, skipping the **Find your institution** step.   #### Social logins: Google or Facebook ![Text reads google facebook](https://knowledge.vlex.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Knowledge%20Base%20SS/Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085304.png?width=549&height=110&name=Screenshot%202025-04-28%20085304.png) On the sign in page, you will see social media icons that will let you sign in via these accounts.
