Where “ [Ask a Question](https://support.vlex.com/features/vincent/ask-a-research-question) ” gives an **objective** answer, “Build an Argument” allows you to build an opinion related to your case — much like a litigator. Vincent AI harnesses the power of Generative AI to analyze legal documents and use this knowledge alongside your own input to build arguments. Lawyers can use this information as the basis of legal briefs, client letters, or any other legal communication. ### Build an argument To get started, select 'Build an Argument' from the list of workflows. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Vincent AI Workflow Library On the left, you can see your history. If you select any of these queries, it will show you the results it showed you before. As this does not re-run the search, it does not count as a new query. The speech bubble icon indicates research workflows. You can collapse your history by clicking the icon above it. Select the jurisdiction (including a region or state) you are interested in at the bottom of the box. When you first enter the page, the jurisdiction will match your default search jurisdiction, if it's available from the list. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Build an Argument Landing Page Supported jurisdictions for Research Workflows are currently: Chile, Colombia, the European Union, Ireland, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. We will be adding more jurisdictions soon. Brazilian, French, and Portuguese content is available on request. You can then input any facts relevant to your client along with instructions for Vincent's argument. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Example Facts and Argument When you are ready, press the blue arrow to start running your query. Vincent will show you a variety of argumentative lines you can choose to take. Select as many of these as you wish and then press the blue arrow again. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Example Arguments The argument may take a minute or two to generate, as Vincent is searching all of our legal content for the best argument for your statement. You can continue with your workday while you wait and will be able to retrieve your answer from the history on the left. Your argument will be displayed on the left-hand side of the screen, with a full list of the authorities Vincent has cited available on the right. If you are trying to put together an argument in defense of a statement, try asking Vincent to create the argument in opposition to it so that you can better prepare! ### Answer Your argument will be split into an introduction, followed by an analysis of the legal principles, and finally a conclusion. If you selected more than one argumentative line, these will appear as purple boxes. Click each box to see the relevant answer and legal authorities. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Example Answer You can download the argument in either PDF or Word format, copy it to your clipboard, and link to the memo by clicking the icons above it. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Task Icons At the bottom, you can rate how well you feel Vincent has built your argument. This does not train the LLM (Large Language Model) but will send feedback to our team so that they can review the process Vincent used to build your argument. ### Legal Authorities On the right, you will see a full list of all the legal texts Vincent has used to create your argument. These will be split by text type. This will include texts that may no longer be in force or have been overruled as they could still be relevant to the argument. For each text, you will see the link, a summary of the passage, and a short excerpt from the text itself. You can copy any of these summaries to your clipboard by selecting the icon at the top of the text listing. If there are any relevant [treatment types](https://support.vlex.com/document-types/case-law/treatment-types) or if a piece of legislation is no longer in force, this will also be shown in the summary. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) Example of a Case with a Negative Citation At the top of the page, you can either collapse the list to see just the text titles or choose to modify the texts used to create the argument. ![](https://static.hsstatic.net/BlogImporterAssetsUI/ex/missing-image.png) View After Selecting 'Modify List' For example, if you feel that one or two of the texts aren't relevant, simply select 'Modify list', de-select the texts you aren't interested in, and click 'Apply'.
